(front and back, unfolded)
The first realization of incorporating sigils into my work and combining my love of music with my artistic practice.
The initial adoption of sigils and witchcraft imagery into my art practice stemmed from my belief of music containing magical elements and properties. I have often felt myself having out-of-body experiences and transcending while listening to music, particularly those in the broad umbrella genre of classic rock. I believe lyrics of songs parallel words of incantations because they were written with intention, and therefore have a large amount of energy embedded into them. Additionally, with the history of certain musical genres being considered satanic, they already have alleged ties to the occult and magic, regardless of whether it is dark or light. Furthermore, rockstars have been elevated to such a high status that they have become gods in their own right – untouchable and sacred. Classic rock has metamorphosed into a religion of its own: Rockstars as gods, fans as their most devoted worshippers, and songs as scripture. Live shows in which everyone is singing aloud creates an electrical buzzing in the air, both gods and worshippers taking part in the chanting of a ritualistic incantation making energy come alive in the room.
